History & Geography

At Harmony Primary School, our history curriculum covers a wide range of themes that are of the most relevance and interest to the pupils at our school. This ensures that pupils develop a broad historical knowledge of both the wider world and of their own personal history.

How we teach History

At Harmony, we teach history through an enquiry based approach. Historical enquiry allows our pupils to question, interpret, explain and communicate their reasoning as a historian. Within lessons, pupils will use and interrogate a range of primary and secondary sources to deepen their knowledge on their chosen theme. As pupils move throughout the school, their knowledge grows across different time periods as they build upon and develop their learning from previous years. Lessons are further enriched outside of the classroom with a range of outdoor learning opportunities for all year groups such as trips to the British Museum, Roman Ruins and the Imperial War Museum.

Developing our pupils curiosity of the world around them, our Geography curriculum makes cross curricular links through it’s thematic delivery. Pupils explore geographic concepts through science, literature, culture and trade.

Our pupils travel across the globe exploring landscapes, climates and culturally significant locations – from both Britain and the wider world. At Harmony, we are committed to providing our pupils with opportunities to investigate their local area, so they can have a deeper understanding of who they are, where they live and what makes our area so unique and special.
