Modern Foreign Language

The Arabic language sits at the heart of our School’s ethos and is required for reading and understanding the Holy Qu’ran. Hence, the Arabic language holds a special significance to Harmony Primary School. As a modern foreign language, the Arabic language will enable pupils to access a wide range of future opportunities.

Our our Arabic curriculum aims to combine learning with enjoyment. Our programme compromises of four main skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

The Arabic curriculum accommodates all pupils from Key Stage 2 onwards, classes are streamed for ability and prior knowledge. Our lessons are presented in an engaging way by using interactive presentations as well as concrete representations.

Pupils are taught to:

  • Listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding.
  • Explore the patterns and sounds of language.
  • Engage in conversations; ask and answer questions; express opinions and seek clarification and help.
  • Speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary and phrases.
  • Develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases.
  • Read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases, and simple writing.
  • Broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words that are introduced into familiar written material.
  • Write phrases from memory and adapt these to create new sentences.
  • Describe people, places, things, and actions orally and in writing.
  • Follow a writing model and write sentences and a simple paragraph.
