Science

At Harmony Primary School the teaching and learning of Science focuses on providing opportunities for pupils to experience and explore the world around them. As a core subject in the primary curriculum, science teaching and learning is key to developing our pupils enquiry mind-set.

How we teach Science

Our science curriculum is carefully planned for progression of the key scientific concepts of observation, investigation, prediction and evaluation. Pupils cover a plethora of topics in the three areas of Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which are explored in greater depth as they progress through the years. Lessons include practical in-class activities, multimedia resources and real world examples to encourage curiosity in all our pupils. Pupils use simple measuring methods and equipment to investigate topics of enquiry, enabling them to predict, hypothesise, investigate, record data and conclude theories. Pupils are encouraged to work collaboratively, to communicate effectively and to use scientific vocabulary to support their reasoning. To enhance their learning experience and understanding, outings to Kew Gardens, The Science Museum and Cheslyn Gardens allows pupils to explore their knowledge and develop their curiosity of the wider world.
